Objectives
The objectives of ARAGORN are:
- To develop machine learning based tools in order to manage the complexity of the optimisation of the communications stack (including radio air interfaces) and show, as proof-of-concept, that such methods originating from artificial intelligence research are appropriate for this task.
- To design the architecture for the cognitive radio manager (CRM) and investigate what are its inherent components. This task includes enabling the CRM to arbitrate between different, often conflicting, optimisation goals in multi-dimensional reasoning processes.
- To provide the interfaces required to enable the CRM to gather information from all protocol layers and to understand the application Quality of Service (QoS) requirements. These requirements will form the basis for the optimisation goal of the CRM.
- To apply the technologies developed to the problem of inter-system interference in the overloaded ISM-bands. This scenario will require cooperation between nodes and is therefore especially appropriate as a use case.
- To prototype the system on reconfigurable hardware with advanced software control. As a strictly measurable objective, the project will combine the Cognitive Resource Manager and related software modules with reconfigurable radio front-end and software radio techniques to demonstrate the system working effectively. These experiments will be performed in the 2.4 GHz ISM-band and will show flexible reconfiguration and adaptation as result of the cognition within the system.
